प्रयागराज में चल रहे महाकुंभ में सिखों की भागीदारी एक महत्वपूर्ण सांस्कृतिक और धार्मिक पहलू को उजागर करती है। इस महापर्व में सिखों के कम से कम तीन अखाड़े सक्रिय रूप से भाग ले रहे हैं, साथ ही बड़ी संख्या में सामान्य सिख श्रद्धालु भी स्नान कर रहे हैं और धार्मिक अनुष्ठानों में सम्मिलित हो रहे हैं। यह दृश्य दर्शाता है कि सिख पंथ की जड़ें सनातन धर्म से कितनी गहराई से जुड़ी हुई हैं। वर्तमान में जब सिख पंथ को सनातन परंपराओं से अलग दिखाने के प्रयास हो रहे हैं, ऐसे में ये घटनाएं उस ऐतिहासिक सच्चाई को सामने लाती हैं जिसे अक्सर अनदेखा किया जाता है। वास्तव में, सिख पंथ और सनातन धर्म के बीच इस कृत्रिम दूरी के पीछे मैक्स ऑर्थर मैक्लीफ नामक एक अंग्रेज अधिकारी का भी योगदान था, जिसने औपनिवेशिक हितों के लिए इस अलगाव को बढ़ावा दिया था।
